Weir removed on the lower Rib

Over recent weeks work has been under way to make improvements to a stretch of the River Rib towards its southern end. Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust have worked with the riparian owners Abbey Cross Angling Society and contractors RJ Bull from Hampshire on a project to remove a weir and create a new gravel riffle, which has now come to fruition.

The weir, which previously blocked the passage of fish, has been replaced by a gravel riffle to provide a smooth run for trout and grayling.

Rather wonderfully, brown trout have already been seen passing upstream.

After work was completed.
